As a Queer/Kink/Poly/Sex-positive therapist, I provide trauma-informed therapy for queer adults and mental health support for polyamorous relationships. Here, you can show up as your full self and find support that honors who you are. My approach blends proven therapy methods with intuitive, creative tools - like ritual and tarot-integrated counseling - to help you heal and grow in ways that feel right for you.
A Little Bit About Me
Hi, I’m Mary Kate Hopwood (they/she), a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S) based in New Orleans. I come to this work with two graduate degrees - one in Mental Health Counseling and one in English Literature - and a deep belief that healing is both a psychological and creative process. My training is rooted in psychodynamic theory and trauma-informed care, but my practice is shaped just as much by intuition, symbolism, and the stories we carry.
I specialize in working with kinky, poly, queer, and witchy adults - folks who are often navigating complex inner worlds and layered identities. As a kink-positive counselor and LGBTQ+ affirming therapist, I integrate traditional clinical tools with creative modalities like tarot, archetypes, and ritual. Therapy should feel like a space where all parts of you are welcome: the analytical, the mystical, the messy, the wise.
Whether you’re untangling emotions, reimagining relationships, or stepping into a new chapter, I’m here to walk alongside you with curiosity, warmth, and respect for your truth.
Navigating the world as a kinky, poly, queer, or witchy person comes with complexities that mainstream spaces often overlook - or worse, misunderstand. You may face stigma, isolation, or even outright discrimination, all while trying to build relationships, explore your identity, and live authentically. In today’s political climate, these challenges can feel even more pressing.
You deserve therapy that meets you where you are - without judgment, without needing to explain the basics of your world, and without fear of being misunderstood. My work is built on the belief that healing should be affirming, insightful, and tailored to the realities of your experiences. Whether you’re confronting internalized shame, navigating community dynamics, or simply seeking a space to process and grow, I’m here to help you move forward with confidence, clarity, and care.
This is a safe space for queer, kink, poly adults - where alternative relationship counseling and sex-positive therapy are offered with depth and respect.
I’d love to hear about what you’re looking for and how we can work together.
Therapy should be a space where you feel truly seen - free to show up exactly as you are, without judgment or pressure to fit anyone’s mold. My approach is grounded in psychodynamic theory, which means we’ll explore how your past experiences shape your present, uncover patterns that no longer serve you, and build a deeper understanding of yourself.
Healing isn’t just about comfort - it’s also about growth. I offer a balance of support and challenge, creating a space where you feel safe enough to explore difficult truths and empowered enough to step into new possibilities. Whether you're working through shame, navigating relationships, or embracing personal change, I’ll help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
Alongside traditional therapy methods, I integrate intuitive and creative tools like tarot and reflective art practices, offering unique ways to connect with your emotions and uncover deeper insights. Every session is tailored to you, honoring both your logic and intuition as we work together toward healing and transformation.
Navigating Alternative Relationships: Whether you're exploring polyamory, navigating power dynamics in kink, or redefining intimacy, I offer polyamory-friendly therapy and a judgment-free space to process challenges, set boundaries, and build fulfilling relationships.
Healing from Shame & Stigma: Internalized shame can be heavy, especially in a world that often misunderstands or rejects who you are. Together, we’ll work on breaking free from harmful narratives, fostering self-acceptance, and reclaiming your autonomy.
Exploring Identity & Spirituality: Your queer, kinky, poly, or witchy identity isn’t just a label - it’s a meaningful part of your life that deserves care and exploration. Therapy with me is a space to embrace who you are, deepen your self-awareness, and step into your personal power.
Processing Life Transitions & Emotional Growth: From grief to personal reinvention, big life shifts can feel overwhelming. I help clients navigate transformation with self-compassion, clarity, and the tools to move forward in alignment with their values.

The name Mandorla comes from the almond-shaped space where two circles overlap - a sacred symbol of integration, transformation, and paradox. It’s the place where opposites meet: logic and intuition, shadow and light, self and other, therapist and client. This is the space I strive to create with you.
The pomegranate represents fertility, mystery, and the richness of inner life. A fruit of myth and ritual, it echoes the depth of the work we do together - layered, juicy, and sacred.
And the snakes? They are symbols of healing, shedding, and rebirth. Across traditions, snakes guard sacred knowledge and mark the threshold of transformation. They remind us that growth often comes through shedding old skins. We don’t change who we are - we become more of ourselves.
I’d love to hear about what you’re looking for and how we can work together.
